The most postcard-perfect seaside towns in the UK...
If you do like to live beside the seaside, check out the most picturesque towns in Britain…
Southwold, Suffolk
Home to its very own brewery, Southwold boasts more cosy pubs than you can shake a stick of rock at. The rainbow of beach huts fringing the sand are cute, but you might prefer living in one of the town’s stone cottages with roses round the door. If you can forget that Gordon Brown took his summer holiday here, Southwold is a gorgeous place to live.
St Andrews, Fife
The fact Prince William met Kate Middleton in here has eclipses the beautiful town’s medieval history. But now the prince and his girlfriend are rooted in London, you’re free to enjoy the home of sun, sea and golf. All you need do is decide whether you’d like a room with a view of the beach, Botanic Gardens or the castle – tough one…
Tenby, Pembrokeshire
Getting the keys to one of the tall, bright pastel houses on Tenby’s front is like having the key to heaven. On your doorstep you’ve got miles of wild sandy beaches and a view of nearby Caldey Island, where the resident monks make chocolate. Delicious all round.
Whitby, Yorkshire
‘Quaint’ is the word most often used to describe Whitby, thanks to its narrow cobbled streets, antique shops and the dramatically ruined Abbey on the clifftop. The photo-ready quayside is where the action is, but for those who live here, the real gem are the coastal walks. You’ll breathe nothing but fresh air, peace and quiet.
St Ives, Cornwal
The beach is magnificent, but the best thing about St Ives is the light. Seriously, it’s the brightest and clearest in the UK. That’s why it’s a haven for artists – it’s no surprise this tiny seaside town has its own Tate gallery. If you lived here, your life would be all coffee in funky cafés and sunset strolls on the beach.
Got something to say?
